On Thursday, Sept. 27, 2018, Orange County Superior Court Judge James Crandall ruled that SB54, California's so-called "sanctuary state" law, is unconstitutional because the law violates the rights of charter cities. Democratic Gov. Jerry Brown signed it into law in October of 2017, making the whole state a safe-haven for illegal aliens, but city officials in Huntington Beach challenged the law...and won.
Huntington Beach opposed the controversial law, saying it infringed on local governments' authority because it doesn’t allow cities to police themselves. The sanctuary law bars some cooperation between local governments and federal immigration officials.
California state Attorney General Xavier Becerra, a Democrat, responded to the court ruling by saying the state would continue to uphold its laws. “Preserving the safety and constitutional rights of all our people is a statewide imperative which cannot be undermined by local rules that are contrary. We will continue working to ensure that our values and laws like the California Values Act are upheld throughout our state,” he said.
This case shows once again, how Democrats want to defend the “rights of all people” at the expense of the rights of citizens and legal resident immigrants. What’s the point of being a citizen or a legal immigrant, if illegal aliens get the same rights, protections, and benefits?
Becerra’s response shows the disrespect Democrats in California have for the rule of law. Democrats in California want to pick and choose which laws they will enforce and which they will ignore.
Furthermore, because California Democrats care more about money than people, they have express concerns about the 2018 Census form asking about citizenship. They are afraid illegal aliens will not answer the census questionnaire, and therefore there will be an “undercount” which will mean less federal money for their state.
Public poverty programs are essential for Democrats and their supporters in the poverty industry (poverty pimps) to buy votes. The higher the number of “needy” in California, whether illegal aliens or legal residents, the higher the need for government programs (and of course the taxes to pay for them).
The liberal California Democrat political leaders are endangering the state’s citizens by undermining immigration laws and local law enforcement, and by embracing liberal policies that burden the taxpayers. They are excusing and rewarding bad behavior, which only encourages some more bad behavior.
States and local governments cannot pick and choose which laws to enforce or ignore, and those state and cities that don’t cooperate with the federal government on federal immigration laws must be punished. All illegal immigration is a crime.
