Democrats Congressman Cuellar of Laredo and Congressman Vela of Brownsville opposed and criticized President Trump’s proposal to close the border because it would harm international trade and the economy of the border region. Their position reflects the arrogance and hypocrisy of the "elites" that control the politics and businesses on the border.
Cuellar and Vela expressed concern for the border counties' economies which are some of the poorest in the nation because of the depressed wages due to the influence of cheap Mexican labor. They claim to support "workers," but act to undermine them.
Their concerns for the economy also seem hollow and disingenuous because both Cuellar and Vela support the radical environmental "Green Plan" which seeks to limit if not abolish gas and oil production. Gas and oil production in south Texas have brought new wealth to many communities. If Cuellar and Vela cared about the local economies, they would oppose illegal alien labor and support oil and gas development.
Also, the international businesses that fear losing money because of the border closure are campaign donors to both Cuellar, Vela and other political elites. Cuellar and Vela are playing politics for the sake of their donors, and they are willing to sell America’s sovereignty and public safety out for some international trade dollars and contributions.
Additionally, Mexico is facilitating the mass invasion of the U.S. by allowing the free and, in some cases, assisted passage of illegal aliens to our borders. There are also the criminal cartels that are not being challenged in their human and drug smuggling enterprises.
Rather than clamping down on these caravans and prosecuting the cartels, Mexican President Lopez Obrador says the borders issues are America's problems, not Mexico. Closing the border will make illegal immigration and international crime Mexico’s problem.
Finally, there is the political posturing that both Cuellar and Vela have done by standing with Democrats Rep. Nancy Pelosi and Senator Chuck Schumer in claiming that the border crisis is “manufactured.” They denied the flood of illegal aliens into their backyard, and impact on their constituents and the American taxpayers.
And so American globalists and liberals are having a meltdown over President Trump’s threat to close the border. They care more about their commerce and trade than about the sovereignty of the nation and the public safety of American citizens.
American foreign trade will suffer in closing the border, but America citizens and taxpayers are already being harmed due to uncontrolled illegal immigration and cartel-sponsored crime.
We must send a strong message to Mexico who is ignoring border crisis, and whose citizens are helping the caravans of illegal aliens to reach our borders. The Mexican government also does little to nothing to stop the criminal cartels that help transport the illegal aliens and drugs into America.
Mexico must assume responsibility and act on this crisis, or the border should be closed. The border crisis is a threat to American security, and it must be treated as such.
Congressman Cuellar and Congressman Vela should not play politics with the sovereignty and safety of our citizens. They should not care more about a few business donors than their constituents and the rest of the nation.
We must build the border wall, close the border and close the loopholes in immigration laws that allow illegal aliens to enter and remain in the U.S. indefinitely. We act to protect America and its citizens.
