In the latest example of the war on Texas heritage and history, the Houston Chronicle ran an opinion piece by Chris Tomlinson on Wednesday, April 10, criticizing Texas’ cowboys and the Alamo. According to Tomlinson, Texas needs to “rebrand” itself away from “racially charged myths.” Beware, Texans.
The Left likes to use shame and guilt to rewrite history and reinvent culture, and this is a good example. Tomlinson says, “Every time I visit the Alamo or see Houstonians don cowboy garb for “Go Texan Day,” I wonder how much longer the long-tall Texan shtick of blazing guns, big hats, high boots, and ethnic warfare will work as a state brand.”
It appears that Tomlinson views western clothing in racial terms. We should wonder if he judges someone who wears baggy pants with the underwear showing in the same manner?
“Fiesta San Antonio” which began as a single event to honor the memory of the battles of the Alamo and San Jacinto, is now being criticized by some students at UTSA that say the city's party has racist roots. It is the latest effort by local liberals and leftists in San Antonio to revise Texas history.
The students Luke Valdes, president of the Mexican American Studies Student Organization (MASSO) says "After Texas independence, many people were celebrating it as a celebration of white supremacy, dominance, colonization of Mexico of Tejas. As far as slavery, imperialism, fascism, manifest destiny, white supremacy, colonization.”
Mexico City native Dennise Frausto says the ten-day festival is a slap in the face because it uses Mexican culture to celebrate the defeat of Mexico. She also says she never participate in the celebration.
Liberal and leftist professors and scholars preach that Texas is the result of American racist expansion that victimized “3rd world natives and people of color”. These UTSA students agree, and like China’s young Red Guard in the 1960s, they want to “expose the truth.” Of course, the local liberal media gave them a public forum.
Apparently, according to Democrats, there is positive and negative racism in 2019. The positive is that a person can get with preferential treatment under the law and by society for being a particular (protected) race such as affirmative action. The negative one will penalize someone for disrespecting another race such as wearing blackface or "appropriating" a culture. Who determines what's good or bad? Apparently, the Democrats do.
Democrat presidential candidate and Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren has experienced the positive. On Wednesday, February 6, 2019, The Washington Post reported that her 1986 Texas State Bar registration card, which Warren personally filled out and signed, listed her race as “American Indian.”
Once again we see how the Democrats and the liberal media collude on "social justice" issues. Minnesota Democrat Congresswoman Ilhan Omar has apologized for her repugnant anti-semitic comments and tweets, but she is being treated differently than Republican Iowa Congressman Steve King who was vilified by the Democrats and the liberal Media.
The Washington Post today gushed with praise and forgiveness at Omar's apology. She is not going be reprimanded in any way by the House leadership, either.
King was removed from his House committees and was criticized for days in the press. Regardless of several apologies by King over what many said was a free expression of an opinion by King, the media called for resignation, too.
The Democrats' and the Media's double standard on racism is undeniable, and they both cover for each other to justify their positions.
Democrats and liberals believe there are two kinds of racism and discrimination.
“Good” racism and discrimination is when minorities can take advantage over non-minorities through affirmative action and other preferential programs and laws. Liberal minorities justify discrimination against non-minorities in the name of social justice, and people like Elizabeth Warren use this “good” racism to further her career by claiming to be a minority (American Indian).
“Bad” racism is any action by non-minorities that liberals and Democrats define as offensive including costumes and language. For example, whites in black-face or wearing MAGA hats are considered offensive and racist, no matter how innocent the intention or behavior.
The fact is that liberals and Democrats define racism according to their political agenda. There is no "social" justice, only justice, and there's no "good" or "bad" racism, just racism, and it is always bad.
