Laredo Democrat Congressman Henry Cuellar held a press conference with local media in Laredo on Tuesday, Feb. 19, to inform them about the Department of Homeland Security’s plans to build 130 miles of border barriers in Border Patrol's Laredo sector. However, Cuellar spun his comments to fit the Democratic Party narrative, and the local newspaper, The Laredo Morning Times, conveniently did not question or find someone to counter Cuellar’s remarks.
Cuellar claimed that a third of the $8 billion President Trump has secured for a border wall through the national emergency declaration would likely go to into barriers in Webb and Zapata counties.
However, Cuellar complained that this money could be better spent on education, transportation or health care. He conveniently ignored the fact that the money was never meant for education, transportation or health care. The LMT ignored asking the question, too.
The newspaper should have asked how much of the federal education, transportation, and health care money is already being used for illegal aliens that pour into the US because there is no barrier or wall. However, they didn’t.
Cuellar said the City of Laredo was snubbed by the U.S. Department of Transportation and did not receive a $78 million road infrastructure grant. He neglects to mention the grants are competitive and merit-based, and that there is a finite amount of federal money to give to projects.
Typical of Democrats who live off the government, Cuellar wants public money to buy votes and maintain power. He also played a victim for not getting funding, and personally blamed Trump saying, "I mean we've been trying to get from the Trump administration those INFRA grants – zero! ... However, they want to give us $3 billion of their border infrastructure."
The LMT didn’t ask Cuellar to prioritize between infrastructure and border security. The fact is that Cuellar refuses to acknowledge that Laredo, Texas, and America need a border wall to secure the border, instead of more than infrastructure dollars for his contractor friends.
Then Cuellar repeated the Democrats’ allegation that Trump is bypassing Congress with the emergency declaration and that the border is safe and secure. Cuellar called Trump a “king,” and conveniently forgot Pres. Obama’s many executive actions like DACA that was unconstitutional. Of course, the LMT forgot to ask questions and compare with Obama’s emergency declarations and executive orders.
Democrats in Texas and everywhere are always going to repeat their Party’s message. Sadly, the state and local news media will not challenge them, if not support them outright.
This news report is another example of liberal a politician misleading the local voters with the help of the local news media. The defense of freedom and liberty starts in our backyards, and Texans must be informed with the facts and truth to be free.
