On the eve of the 2022 New Year celebrations, the San Antonio Police Department has reminded citizens that using fireworks inside the city limits is illegal and a Class C misdemeanor with a fine of up to $2,000. However, the reality is that because of police department staffing and morale, response to calls will be slow, and few violators will be cited.
Although the SA City leaders refuse to admit it, SAPD is suffering a shortage of officers due to high rates of retirement by veteran officers and low recruitment numbers. In addition, the anti-police environment fueled by liberals and leftists has taken a toll on good police officers.
The SAPD faces low morale among officers who feel disrespected and undermined. Officers are concerned about the lack of support by SAPD leadership. A minor police call could escalate into a dangerous situation and result in allegations of “police brutality” and “racism,” The local Fake News and politicians will try and convict them without support from the SAPD leaders.
The George Soros-funded Bexar County District Attorney Joe Gonzales has a reputation for releasing the suspects in major arrests, claiming a staff shortage. However, Gonzales has an active office that prosecutes law enforcement officers accused of crimes.
San Antonio is suffering from the “broken windows” syndrome, which means that visible signs of crime, anti-social behavior, and civil disorder create a community environment that encourages more crime and disorders, including serious crimes. In SA, the DA, the liberal/leftist City officials, and the Marxist/racist community leaders excuse “minor” crimes and criminals, which encourages major crimes and criminals, yet the police officers are expected to maintain law and order.
On New Year’s Eve, San Antonio citizens will see the minor lawlessness of fireworks across the city. However, they should recognize that it is symptomatic of a larger, more dangerous problem.
